MCR LTER Information Management Plan

Abstract

This document presents an introduction to the Information Management System (IMS) of the Moorea Coral Reef (MCR) Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) site. Information management facilitates the site's research and thus has been an integral part of the site's activities since its formation in September of 2004. Originally the site's information management needs were met by Margaret O'Brien, SBC LTER's Information Manager, until MCR hired Sabine Grabner as its Information Manager. Sabine joined a growing information management team at the Marine Science Institute at the University of California Santa Barbara. The main design priorities for the MCR LTER's IMS focus on developing a system that is flexible and easily maintained to enhance cross-site usability, and to facilitate ease of use by both researchers and Information Managers. The IM plan presents a detailed description of both the underlying technology as well as the user's interfaces and available resources.
