The long term survey begun by ecologist Joseph H. Connell in 1963 and carried on by the current generation is featured in an article in the March 2014 issue of Natural History. Originally studying the reefs, "like corals, rainforest plant communities contain a high diversity of sessile organisms, so the fates of individuals can be tracked over time."
